Keeping Your Loved Ones Safe with Cinergy Health

Anyone over the age of 65 should be diligent about not falling, since falls can lead to broken bones and prolonged issues. Here are a number of tips from Cinergy Health & Life Insurance Agency to help those you love stay safe as they age.

1. Make sure that items that are frequently used in the home are kept within reach. Discourage climbing on step stools and chairs. Help them to understand that they shouldn’t stand on the tips of their toes, as it is a great way to lose your balance. Teach them to wait for assistance rather than to climb to high locations.

2. Help your loved one to pick out well-fitting, supportive flat shoes. Not every shoe style is suitable for elderly people.

3. Make sure they are taking their medications just as they have been prescribed. As Cinergy Health explains, “ The elderly may not be able to accurately give themselves their own medicines and if that is the case you will need to be responsible for giving them their medicines. It is possible that they may have falls as a result of medication side effects. If your elderly loved one complains of feeling dizzy or lightheaded report this problem to their physician immediately. The doctor may need to make adjustments in their medicines to control their symptoms.”

Getting Ready for Yoga with Cinergy Health

Yoga can be a relaxing, spiritual experience. Some people, however, give it two or three tries and give up, finding that it doesn’t fulfill all of their expectations. As Cinergy Health explains, it is important to give yourself time to enjoy yoga and to find the right type of yoga exercise for your needs.

Evaluate Your Expectations

First, it’s important, when you begin taking yoga classes, to have realistic expectations. Yes, you can lose weight from yoga, but it’s not going to happen after two sessions. You need to set realistic goals and understand that yoga is a way of life and not just a means to an end.

Find the Right Type

There are many different types of yoga and it’s important for each person to find the type that fits her needs. Take a few yoga classes and think about which type you enjoy the most. Make sure, in addition, to find the right instructor.

The Right Match

The instructor really makes a difference and you may think that you’re turned off to yoga when you’re really just turned off to the instructor. You should also make sure that the instructor that you select has all of the right qualifications and credentials so that you’ll have a safe yoga experience.

Dads Get Postpartum Depression Too: Cinergy Health

Certainly, most people have heard about postpartum depression.  They assume, however, that only women can be afflicted with this depression.  A new study from the Journal of American Medical Association shows that dads can have postpartum depression as well.  The study, with lead author James Paulson of the department of pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School, shows that about 10% of men actually have prenatal and postpartum depression.

The study also found an association between the mother’s depression and the father’s, so that when the mother was more depressed, the father was as well.  Rates of fathers’ depression were higher in the United States, at about 14%, while rates abroad were at about 8%.  Paulson found, as well, that most of the depression occurred 3-6 month after the baby’s birth.

Certainly, if you are a man who has recently had a baby and are feeling depressed, or if you are  a new mom and you notice depression in your husband, you should seek medical attention.  Speak with your health care company, such as Cinergy Health, or with your primary care physician to get the help you need.

Mind Health & The Right Foods: Cinergy Health

Certain foods are apparently good for your mental health.  The Alzheimer’s Association refers to “brain-healthy diet” food as “one that reduces the risk of heart disease and diabetes, encourages good blood flow to the brain, and is low in fat and cholesterol.”

Here is a list of foods that are said to promote extra brain power and good mental health: blackberries, coffee, apples, chocolate, cinnamon, spinach, extra virgin olive oil, salmon, curry, and concord grape juice. Each of these items is said to inhibit memory loss and to strengthen areas of the brain that are important for memory and cognitive function.

Speak with your health care provider such as Cinergy Health for other similar ideas and remember to eat your spinach (and your chocolate) each day!

Solving the Problem of Bad Breath with Cinergy Health

If you or someone you love has halitosis, you know how difficult an issue it can be.  No matter how much chewing gum, mouthwash and other products you try, it may just not get rid of the bad breath.

The most common source of bad breath is a high level of bacteria in your mouth.  High levels of bacteria can be triggered by sinus or allergy problems, by medications that cause dry mouth, or by certain medical conditions such as diabetes.

Cinergy Health explains that, in general, bad breath can be managed with regular brushing and flossing and with regular dental cleanings.  Keep your tongue clean of bacteria, drink enough water and keep your mouth moist.  If your bad breath persists, see a dentist to check for tooth infections and for gum infections that may be causing the problem.

Seek the help that you need so that you won’t be embarrassed by bad breath anymore!

Update About Asthma: Cinergy Health

If your child is diagnosed with asthma, it’s important for you, as a parent, to be informed and to know how to speak to your child.  Some children will feel that there is something wrong with them and that they aren’t normal.  Children should understand that, for the most part, asthma is controllable.  Speaking with health professionals within your plan, whether it’s Cinergy Health or another provider, can help you to become more educated and aware.

According to information from the American Lung Association, the better that you and your child understand asthma and its implications, the better able you’ll be to deal with it and control it.  Make sure to work closely with your doctor so that you can reassure your child and help his health to improve.

Cinergy Health Warning about Quinine

Cinergy Health has recently covered the news from the Food and Drug Administration about quinine.  The FDA has recently sent out a warning that quinine could have life-threatening side effects when taken for nighttime leg cramps.  The Food and Drug Administration explains that they have received dozens of reports of people who developed adverse effects while taking this drug, including kidney damage and even two deaths.

Qualaquin is only approved for treating malaria, which means that other uses are not approved and potentially dangerous.  The FDA has said that the manufacturer of Qualaquin is developing a risk management plan to help to communicate these potential risks to doctors and to consumers.

Worries about Weight Training Dispelled with Cinergy Health

If you’re starting a weight training program, or any exercise program, it’s important to consult with a doctor before you begin.  Many people have misconceptions about weight training programs, and these can be easily dispelled with the facts offered by Cinergy Health.

Women often worry that weight training will make them look too muscular.  This is not usually the case, as women respond to weight training in a different way than do men.  Women typically bulk up less since they have less testosterone.

The popular statement “no pain, no gain” is false. Your body will adapt to weight training and will not remain sore all the time.  Just because you aren’t sore and uncomfortable doesn’t mean that you aren’t benefiting from the weight training program.
